My usual July 4th tradition is to spend time with my family, cook up a barbecue storm on the back porch and then end the night with my town’s gorgeous fireworks. However, this year, I’m spending my July 4th weekend with a staycation in the city–which definitely means a different kind of attire than if I were hanging with friends and family in the suburbs…

I’ve put together an Independence Day inspired look for a night out in the city. Whenever I go to Manhattan, the whole atmosphere changes–the people are more fast paced, the nights get classier, which always means you have to step it up and dress for the occasion!

I hope this classed up version of a July 4th outfit inspires your own look while dressing for the 4th! I’m hoping to definitely enjoy the fireworks in the city at a rooftop restaurant/bar in this dressy July 4th getup!

Happy 4th of July fashionistas,

A weekend look styling the “Little Black Tote”: the two rules I live by while dressing for the weekend are, (1) keep it casual and (2) be as comfortable as possible! I used to love to dress up all the time, even for no reason at all. However, I’ve found it quite tiresome to be in uncomfortable clothing every single day of the week, especially when dressing up is now required while I’m interning. Here, I’ve decided to dress down with a summery print.

I absolutely adore seasonal prints. In this case, I couldn’t resist the blue crab when I saw him on the sale rack in J. Crew. With a boxy and structured cut to the top, I decided to style it with a structured skort to make sure there was uniformity throughout the entire look.

The “Little Black Tote” was my go-to bag in this case because I wanted to showcase the bright blue crab print by keeping the rest of the outfit neutral. With a monochromatic palette, the bright blue hues draw all the attention to the unique print.

On weekends, I am often out of the apartment very early, running errands or meeting friends for brunch. I like a good sized tote that fits all the essentials for my day (with some room left over). I especially look for quality and durability when it comes to choosing the perfect tote, and I can honestly say that this Ann Taylor Gallery Tote has not disappointed. The leather is 100% vegan, not to mention soft and supple to the touch as well. This Gallery Tote is the most versatile bag in my wardrobe and is definitely going to be my go-to bag from now on.

Hope you guys enjoyed this mini series on the “Little Black Tote!” Happy styling fashionistas,

Happy Thursday, loves! Hope your week is going great so far!

I’ve styled for you guys the “night” version look with the “Little Black Tote!” I absolutely love the color scheme here, with pale blues and silver metallics. I ended up belting the porcelain shift dress because I didn’t want to lose my waistline in this dress, especially with my petite frame. The dress has draped material on the sides, which ends up looking very unique when belted. Not to mention, the chiffon material is great for those hotter summer nights, allowing me to keep cool in the lightweight fabric.

With such a beautiful pattern already on the dress, I kept my accessories neutral so that all the attention would be on the porcelain details. I couldn’t resist with the statement necklace though—I felt like it gave the whole look a very polished and refined feeling, perfect for a classy night time event.

This is definitely an outfit I would wear out to a nice dinner with my girls, or my boyfriend—or perhaps a new gallery opening or a nice work dinner. I hope this post has inspired you to do a night time outfit pairing with your own “Little Black Tote!”

Happy styling fashionistas,

The “Little Black Tote” is possibly one of the easiest things to pair with any outfit. However, it’s finding the perfect one for you that is the challenge. What I love about this particular tote are is quality of the craftsmanship–made with 100% vegan leather, the material could not be more supple (not to mention durable as well). The structure and design of the bag is also very clever, with four zippers on every corner, just in case extra space is needed.  This new tote is definitely my go-to bag for any occasion, from classy dates to saturday errands.

Here, I’ve styled the tote for more of a daytime look, with an embellished top and high waisted pleated midi skirt. The color combo here is very soft, emphasizing the blush color by contrasting with the black skirt and tote. This is one of my favorite outfits to wear to work, and on that particular day, I was able to take a quick stroll on the High Line in Chelsea before my usual commute home. I definitely recommend visiting if you’ve never been–it’s such a beautiful repurpose of the old New York railroad!

Hope you’re taking the time to enjoy your summers as much as I am! Stay tuned for my next post on the “Little Black Tote,” coming soon with a dressed up “night” version! Until then…

Happy styling fashionistas,

Summer Lookbook: The Lace Dress

J. Crew Cotton Piqué Lace Dress | Kate Spade Marguerite Lilac Road Bag | J. Crew Factory Crystal Flower Burst Necklace | Banana Republic Sabrine Wedges | J. Crew Crystal Shoe Clips

It’s not summer until you can break out the lace dress from your wardrobe! Lace and summer are one of those things that just go hand in hand. The delicate material, the intricate pattern, all in one gorgeous flowing dress—perfect for outdoor barbecues or impromptu soirée.

I styled my lace dress for a more casual summer afternoon, great for a stroll through the neighborhood or coffee date. I love how this dress does not particularly have lace everywhere, but rather just as a detailed lining. This way, the lace pattern does not overpower the entire look.

To add a pop of color, I styled the dress with a bright poppy statement necklace. I kept the other accessories neutral so as to not take away the attention from the dress and necklace. Hope you guys enjoyed my summer series on the essential pieces and prints I will be wearing this summer!

Happy styling fashionistas!

Summer Lookbook: The Eyelet Skirt

Anthropologie Scallop Blue Cami | Banana Republic Eyelet Skirt (Similar) J. Crew Sunburst Earrings | Aldo Galelawen

Two of the trends I love most this summer are scallop details and eyelet prints. These trends just have an automatic summer feeling and I loved pairing the two of them together in one look.

Since this eyelet skirt is more form fitting, I wanted to balance the look out with a flowy top. The bright baby blue is a much needed pop of color, especially with such a delicate white skirt. The silver metallic tones in the statement earrings and shoes are very eye-catching and give the outfit a polished finish.

To me, summer wear is all about being comfortable and keeping cool in the hot weather—and this outfit encompasses that. An alternative way to style this could be a pair of silver metallic sandals, should the occasion call for a more casual look. I would probably wear this particular outfit out on a nice lunch date with my girlfriends, or to a movie date with the boyfriend!

Floral is always a good idea when it’s spring or summer. It’s definitely something that I can’t resist—especially when I see all the bright and beautiful flowers everywhere. This is by far one of my favorite floral prints for the summer. I love the overall navy background of the top, which highlights the pastel and neon floral patterns.

When wearing a very busy or statement top, I like to keep the bottoms more streamlined and simple. I usually like to choose one color from the top to feature on the bottoms. Here, I’ve chosen pastel pink color in the floral top and extended it to a light pink flare skirt. Choosing one color to highlight will help pull the overall look together.

Because I wanted all the attention to be focused on the gorgeous floral pattern, I made sure that my shoes and accessories were very simple. Here, I have finished the look with a pair of black and brown color block heels, some dainty bracelets and a gold wallet. The neutral tones of the accessories compliment the statement floral print.

I hope this helps all of you while styling your own floral tops for the summer!

Summer Lookbook: The Maxi Dress

Banana Republic Navy Knit Patio Dress | Aldo Shoes Mint Clutch (Similar) | Aldo Shoes Galelawen Heels

A definite must-have staple for the summer in any fashionista’s wardrobe is the maxi dress! You can dress your maxi dress up with some heels and a clutch, or keep it casual with some flip flops and an oversized tote!

This particular maxi dress caught my eye because of the deep navy color, along with the unique keyhole design that turns the top into almost a halter-like style.

I decided to go for a more dressed up look when I put together this outfit, with a pair of silver pointed heels, a mint clutch, and some statement earrings. I love how this maxi dress has sides that are actually slit up until the knees. It makes the whole outfit more fun a flirty, especially since you could show just a little more skin when the dress billows against the summer breezes.

Hope you’ve all found your own staple maxi dress for your wardrobes! If not, I definitely recommend you check out this one!

J. Crew Factory Printed Sun Shift | Kate Spade Marguerite Lilac Road Handbag | J. Crew Flower Cuff Bracelet | J. Crew Factory Link Bracelet Banana Republic Sabrine Wedges

I want to officially kick off this summer with a new summer series, featuring picks of all the essential pieces you’ll need in your wardrobe for the season! First up, the printed dress.

Everyone needs a perfect, go-to printed dress for the summer! This dress is one of the most versatile pieces in my wardrobe. I love the soft pink color, the palm tree print and the flowing silhouette!

Not to mention, this kind of dress is something you can wear for casual outings (with flip flops and a tote) or for more dressy events (with heeled sandals and a belt). I actually ended up wearing this particular outfit to the Galleria Dallas for a bit of post-memorial weekend shopping.

The loose fit of the dress makes it very comfortable to maneuver around. I paired the dress with my nude wedges and scallop bag because the nude tones really show off the gorgeous pink hue of the print. To me, this is definitely a piece that is worth the investment since I know I’ll be wearing it very often this summer. I hope you guys have your own favorite print dress for the season!

Under the Cherry Blossoms

Banana Republic Eyelet Peplum | A&F Medium Destroyed JeansBanana Republic Nude Wedges | Forever 21 Structured Crossbody (similar) | Kate Spade Scallop Bangle | Kate Spade Bow Ring

Spring is by far my favorite season (luckily I don’t have allergies)! I love watching the world come back to life from the white, wintry wonderland. The weather gets warmer and gorgeous blossoms start blooming on all the trees.

For a casual stroll in Washington Square Park, I paired a white eyelet peplum top with medium destroyed jeans. Eyelet is definitely an up and coming trend for spring/summer this year. I’ve been seeing dresses, shorts, skirts, etc… However, what I especially love about this top is the peplum style. Peplum is great for petites because it sits at the tiniest part of our waist and then flares out, giving our form natural curves while elongating our upper body. Combine peplum with the eyelet and you’ve got yourself the perfect trendy top!

The destroyed jeans help dress down the look, especially when wearing 4” nude wedges. I’m so excited to be able to wear sandals and see my toes again! I feel as if I’ve been living in boots these past few months, so I’m taking every single opportunity to wear open-toe shoes as the weather continues getting warmer!

To match the nude wedges, I accessorized with a leather structured cross-body and some delicate gold jewelry. Hope you guys are as excited about the warm weather as I am! Can’t wait to feature more spring/summer looks!

Geo Print

Express Crop Top (Similar)J. Crew Geo Print Drawstring Pants | Steve Madden Dynemite Heels (Similar) | Box Clutch

Usually, when I think of drawstring pants, I immediately put together a casual outfit in my mind. I’ve actually stayed away from purchasing this type of pants because I don’t usually see myself wearing them out. However, when I came across this pair on the sales rack of J. Crew, I fell in love with the geometric print, the light, flowiness of the silhouette and thought—hey, maybe I’d give them a shot.

These pants are unlike any other pair I have ever owned. I usually stay away from non-fitted pants because I’m a very petite girl and usually get lost in all the material. However, these pants have a good ratio between fitted and flowy, so I’m able to maintain my figure despite the less form-fitting design.

The drawstring pants are high waisted as well—so I paired them with a fitted, crop top. The high waisted feature of the pants helps elongate the legs. Throw in a pair of your highest heels, and you’ll give everyone the illusion that your legs go on for miles! Not to mention, the heels dress up the entire look, making the outfit less casual and conventional.

As for accessories, I wanted all the attention to be focused on the geo print on the pants, so I paired with a simple box clutch with gold details, a black and gold statement ring, and a spike cuff bracelet. Now this is definitely an outfit that I would wear for a night out in the city or for drinks with the girls!

Cocktails at Lunch

WHBM Dress | Vera Wang Trench | Kate Spade Wallet | J. Crew Earrings | Via Spiga Heels (Similar)

Fancy a cocktail at lunch? I came across the most beautiful cocktail dress the other day: a gold shift with jacquard detailing and jeweled collar. The attention to detail and quality of this dress is incomparable. The gold jacquard flickers every moment it catches the light, giving the dress an almost ethereal look.

A dress as glamourous as this has to be shown off! Whether it’s at a business lunch or a fancy dinner date, this dress will definitely turn heads! To complement the shimmer of the gold, I decided to pair the dress with a deep royal purple satin trench. The two pieces work together seamlessly to create a classic and elegant look

With such a statement dress and coat, I kept my accessories very simple: a pair of silver statement earrings to match the jeweled collar, my staple gold wallet, and a pair of peep-toe gold heels.

Voila! Happy styling fashionistas,

-A
